How long do the effects of teeth whitening last?
There are several variables when it comes to the degree of whiteness that’s achievable for each individual. The condition of your teeth, the degree of the staining, and the bleaching system you choose all play a part in how white your teeth can become and how long they’ll stay white.
Just as your normal teeth darken over time, so will your new bright smile. Most patients don’t notice any fading until 6 months to a year after treatment. We offer quick touch-up procedures at any time.
What are my options?
At-Home Whitening
If you prefer to brighten your smile in the comfort of your home or you would like to have a kit on hand for spontaneous touch ups, we offer a simple, professional alternative to over-the-counter treatments, requiring no trays or impressions. We would be happy to get you set up with this teeth-whitening option after a quick consultation in our office. Our prescription strength bleaching kits are not available over-the-counter and also have a desensitizer incorporated into them so they don’t cause the usual sensitivity that can happen with over-the-counter brands.
Custom Trays
Another safe and convenient teeth-whitening treatment system that we provide involves an initial appointment with our team in which we take impressions of your teeth to create a customized set of trays. Then, at home, in as little as 15 minutes, you can achieve your preferred level of whiteness. Our custom trays are affordable and ready for use within a few days. This system comes in a variety of different strengths, and we look forward to helping you choose the product most suitable for you.
Teeth Whitening FAQs
- Why do teeth change color?
- Is teeth whitening safe?
- How do I keep my teeth white?
- Do teeth whiteners damage existing dental restorations?
Why do teeth change color?
For some, discoloration is a result of surface stains, and a stricter regimen of brushing and flossing daily can significantly whiten discolored teeth. For others, teeth may look yellow because the color of the dentin underneath the surface enamel has darkened as that enamel has worn down. Whether it’s age, inadequate oral care habits, or genetics, we offer a variety of teeth whitening options that can set you on the path to the dazzling smile you deserve.
Is teeth whitening safe?
Yes! Bleaching has been around for decades, and all our techniques are ADA approved. The American Dental Association has said that hydrogen peroxide whiteners are safe and effective. It’s important that you follow the product’s instructions carefully, and don’t hesitate to give us a call if you find the whitening process if causing you discomfort.
How do I keep my teeth white?
Regularly using your teeth whitening products will keep a sparkle in your smile. Of course, there are steps you can take to keep your teeth at their whitest while avoiding using teeth whiteners as often. Brush and floss regularly, quit smoking, limit stain offenders, such as coffee, tea, and red wine, and regularly attend your dental cleanings to keep staining and yellowing at bay.
Do teeth whiteners damage existing dental restorations?
No. You will cause no damage to existing dental restorations if you use teeth whiteners. However, they won’t lighten either. So, you’ll want to lighten your teeth to the color of your crowns, bridges, etc. or you’ll want to replace pre-existing restorations so that they match the color of your whitened teeth.
